How Much Does a Boat Wrap Cost in Auckland?

Kingfisher 705 Smile 2 full hull wrap running on the water by AAA Signs

Boat wrap pricing follows a similar logic to a vehicle wrap, but the marine environment adds a few extra variables of its own. Here's what actually drives the number, so you know roughly where your job will sit before you ask for a quote.

1. Hull length

More length means more surface area, more material and more labour — the same basic relationship as vehicle size. A trailer boat and a launch are very different jobs.

2. How much you're covering

Options broadly run from name and registration graphics only, through part-hull graphics, to a full hull wrap covering the topsides in a complete custom design. A full wrap with photographic artwork — the kind of job that turns a hull into a genuine piece of art — sits at the top of the range; name and registration decals sit at the bottom.

3. Gelcoat condition

Vinyl needs a sound, clean surface to bond to properly. Oxidation, chalking, old antifoul overspray or areas of previous repair all need addressing before a wrap goes on, and that prep work adds time. A hull in good condition is a faster, more straightforward job than one that needs work first.

4. Artwork complexity

Solid colours and simple graphics print and install faster than full-colour photographic artwork with fine detail — the kind of design work that goes into wrapping a hull with shark, tuna or wave artwork, for example. Complex artwork also benefits from more design time up front to make sure it wraps correctly around the hull's curves.

5. Trailer graphics

If the boat's on a trailer that's seen on the road as much as the boat is seen on the water, matching trailer graphics are a common (and comparatively affordable) add-on worth asking about at the same time.

So what should you budget?

We don't publish fixed prices, because quoting a hull we haven't seen would be guessing. What we can tell you is the order of things: name and registration graphics sit at the affordable end, part-hull graphics in the middle, and a full custom hull wrap at the top.

Send us photos of the boat — particularly the topsides and any areas of oxidation or previous repair — along with its length, and we'll come back with real numbers, usually within one business day.

One more thing worth knowing

Saltwater and UV exposure are harder on a wrap than road use, which is why laminate quality matters even more on a boat than on a vehicle. A wrap that fails after a season on the water isn't cheaper than one that's specced properly the first time — it's more expensive, twice.
